NORTH CAROLINA — A Maysville woman is facing a misdemeanor child abuse charge after authorities say she left a 5-year-old child home alone in Onslow County.
According to arrest records, Amaria Moore, 27, was arrested Sunday, June 7, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred the previous Friday.
Authorities allege Moore left a 5-year-old autistic, non-verbal child unattended at a residence, creating what investigators described as an unsafe environment. Court documents state the child was allegedly locked inside the home and left alone, exposing the child to potential danger in the event of a fire or other emergency.
Records also indicate Moore was on pretrial release for a previous offense at the time of the alleged incident.
The Onslow County Department of Social Services was notified and has imposed restrictions regarding the child. According to court records, Moore is not permitted to have contact with the child without approval from the department.
Moore remains in the Onslow County Detention Center without bond.
