
INDIANA — A 16-year-old girl was killed and another teenager was injured early Sunday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck and a horse-drawn buggy in Adams County.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of State Road 124 and County Road 200 East at approximately 2 a.m. on reports of a collision involving a semi-truck and a horse-drawn buggy.
A preliminary investigation found that both the semi-truck and the buggy were traveling westbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the semi-truck struck the rear of the buggy.
Authorities identified the occupants of the buggy as 16-year-old Joe Schwartz of Monroe and 16-year-old Laura Schwartz of Decatur.
Joe Schwartz was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. Laura Schwartz was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured, according to investigators.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said the crash remains under investigation.
