One person dead following drowning incident in Virginia

VIRGINIA — A man died after an apparent drowning at Lake Anna State Park on Thursday, according to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Officials said park visitors found the man unresponsive in approximately 10 feet of water during the afternoon of June 4.

Park visitors and park rangers entered the water in an attempt to rescue him and began CPR. First responders with Spotsylvania Fire and Rescue continued lifesaving efforts after arriving at the scene.

Despite those efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity has not been released pending notification of family members.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

The beach at Lake Anna State Park is currently closed until further notice as officials continue their investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.
