MARYLAND — Maryland State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of an Ocean City man Tuesday night in Worcester County.

According to state police, Gregory Roth, 79, of Ocean City, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash near the intersection of westbound U.S. Route 50 and Maryland Route 610.

Troopers from the Berlin Barrack responded to the scene shortly before 9:30 p.m. on June 2. A preliminary investigation determined that Roth was driving a silver 2010 Nissan Altima north on Route 610 when he entered the intersection with westbound Route 50.

Investigators believe the Nissan failed to stop at a stop sign before colliding with a black 2014 Ford F-150 traveling west on Route 50.

Roth was the sole occupant of the Nissan. The driver of the Ford declined medical treatment.

Authorities said an autopsy is being conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to help determine the cause and manner of Roth’s death.

The westbound lanes of Route 50 were closed for an extended period while investigators processed the scene.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with the response and road closures. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is continuing the investigation.
