INDIANA — Authorities are investigating after a body was found in the St. Joseph River near Leeper Park on Wednesday evening.
According to dispatch officials, South Bend Police and South Bend Fire Department crews responded to the 700 block of Riverside Drive, south of Leeper Park, after receiving a report of a body in the river around 5 p.m.
First responders arrived at the scene and confirmed that the individual, identified only as an adult male, was deceased.
Firefighters began recovery operations shortly after arriving and were working to remove the body from the river Wednesday evening.
Officials have not released the man’s identity or provided information about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities said additional details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
