ARIZONA — A traffic stop in Apache Junction led to the discovery of a large-scale drug operation and the seizure of significant quantities of illegal narcotics, according to the Apache Junction Police Department.
Police said the investigation began during a traffic stop near Broadway Avenue and Meridian Road when K-9 Tessa alerted officers to the presence of drugs inside a vehicle.
The alert led investigators to a home in Mesa, where authorities said they uncovered a drug operation that was supplying narcotics to Apache Junction and surrounding communities.
According to police, the investigation resulted in the seizure of approximately 5.89 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.16 pounds of fentanyl powder, 1.8 ounces of heroin, and 4,290 fentanyl M30 pills. Officers also seized $2,110 in cash and one vehicle.
Apache Junction police credited K-9 Tessa with helping detectives identify and dismantle the operation.
“This is just one example of the incredible work K9 Tessa is doing across the Valley, helping law enforcement agencies identify narcotics, support investigations, and keep communities safe,” the department said in a social media post.
Authorities have not announced whether any arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing.
