Suspect found dead in South Carolina after shooting ex-girlfriend in Maryland

MARYLAND — A South Carolina man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in Maryland was later found dead in South Carolina, according to Prince George’s County Police.

Police identified the man as Dante Morris, 30, of Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Officers responded around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday to the 10400 block of Birdie Lane in Upper Marlboro for a reported domestic-related shooting. When they arrived, they found a woman outside suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Investigators identified Morris as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. During the investigation, police learned Morris had driven back to South Carolina following the shooting.

Authorities said Morris was found dead Tuesday evening in South Carolina. Additional details regarding the circumstances of his death were not immediately released.

Police confirmed that Morris and the victim had previously been in a relationship.
