
ILLINOIS — Two people were injured after a crash involving two vehicles brought down a utility pole on Interstate 57 on Chicago’s South Side early Wednesday morning, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:55 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57 near 103rd Street.
State police said a red Tesla and a white BMW were involved in the collision. The crash also caused a utility pole to fall across the interstate, blocking multiple lanes of traffic.
Two people were transported to a local hospital with injuries. Authorities have not released information on the severity of those injuries.
Traffic was heavily impacted during the morning commute as crews worked to clear the scene and remove the downed pole. Chopper footage from the area showed significant backups along the interstate.
No additional details about the cause of the crash or whether any citations were issued were immediately available.
Illinois State Police continue to investigate the incident.
