
VIRGINIA — The Chesapeake Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing endangered woman who was last seen Monday night in Norfolk.
According to police, 28-year-old Monai Thornton was last seen around 8:45 p.m. on June 1 in the 8000 block of Shore Drive in Norfolk.
Thornton is described as a Black woman standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. She has orange hair, brown eyes, tattoos on her shoulder and back, and a nose piercing. Police said she was last seen wearing a purple hoodie, black pants and a blue shirt.
Authorities said Thornton is deaf, nonverbal and has cerebral palsy, as well as a cognitive learning disability. Family members have expressed concern for her welfare because of her disabilities and the possibility that she may be attempting to leave the state.
Investigators believe Thornton may be traveling in a gray Ford Escape displaying Texas license plate VBT-4457. Police also said she may be accompanied by her biological father, who does not have custody of her.
