Three people injured following crash involving school bus in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Three people were injured Monday afternoon after a crash involving a Rockingham County school bus in Reidsville, according to county officials.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 4:15 p.m. following reports of a crash near U.S. Highway 158, Brooks Road and Vaughn Road.

Officials said a Rockingham County school bus went down an embankment after the collision. The bus was occupied by the driver and one middle school-aged student.

According to Rockingham County Schools, both the student and the bus driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.

In a statement, Rockingham County Schools said initial reports indicate School Bus No. 180 was sideswiped on U.S. Highway 158 near Brooks Road.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Yanceyville Fire Department and Rockingham County EMS responded to the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
