
GEORGIA — A Cordele man was arrested on multiple drug and firearm charges Monday after police responded to a trespassing complaint and later recovered marijuana, a handgun and cash during the investigation.
According to the Cordele Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home on Stewart Avenue at approximately 8:30 a.m. regarding a trespassing complaint. Before officers arrived, the alleged trespasser had left the area.
The person who reported the trespassing also told police the man had been selling illegal drugs from the residence.
Officers later located the suspect behind the vacant Pizza Hut building and attempted to question him about the complaint. Police said the man fled when officers began speaking with him.
Authorities searched the area and eventually arrested the suspect behind the Circle K on East 16th Avenue.
During the arrest, officers recovered a large quantity of suspected marijuana, digital scales, a loaded 9mm handgun, jewelry and a substantial amount of cash.
The suspect was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, abandonment of a controlled substance and loitering or prowling.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
