
GEORGIA — One person was killed in a crash that shut down part of Interstate 85 in Jackson County for several hours early Monday morning, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 2:46 a.m. near mile marker 132 on I-85. Fire department officials initially responded to the scene, where all lanes were closed as emergency crews worked the wreck.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a preliminary investigation found that a Ford van and a Kenworth tractor-trailer collided on the interstate.
When troopers arrived, the driver of the Ford van was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
The condition of the tractor-trailer driver was not disclosed.
Traffic was heavily impacted during the morning commute, but all lanes reopened around 7:50 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
