According to police, investigators tracked known street racing groups to South Nashville, where vehicles had gathered to perform dangerous driving stunts and set off fireworks. The operation resulted in 12 arrests on a total of 47 charges.
Officers first responded to a group near Antioch Pike and Haystack Lane, where a passenger was reportedly hanging out of a moving Ford Mustang. Police said the Mustang fled an attempted traffic stop and was later found on Bell Road near Smith Springs Road performing donuts and shooting fireworks from the vehicle. The car again fled before being stopped with assistance from MNPD Aviation.
Police identified 26-year-old Michael Urena as the driver. He was charged with inciting a riot, evading arrest, multiple counts of reckless endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of minors. Urena remains jailed on a $45,500 bond.
A second arrest occurred early Sunday when officers responded to a group setting off fireworks in the 3700 block of Nolensville Pike. Police said 19-year-old Granados Zavala fled at a high rate of speed before the vehicle became disabled near Zoo Road. Zavala and five passengers, including four teenagers, were taken into custody.
Investigators said officers recovered three guns, including a BB gun, along with THC vape products and marijuana from the vehicle.
