GEORGIA — Two people were killed and one person was injured after a helicopter crashed Friday night in Dawson County, according to local officials.
Authorities said the crash was reported shortly after 10 p.m. in the area of Mt. Vernon Drive in northeast Georgia.
Two people died in the crash. A woman was rescued from the wreckage and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
Officials said the crash site was difficult to access because it was located in a heavily wooded area. Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene and worked through the night.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified and are responding to investigate the cause of the crash.
The scene has been turned over to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not released the identities, ages or hometowns of those involved.
The crash remains under investigation.
