Part of I-81 in Pennsylvania shut down following vehicle crash

PENNSYLVANIA — A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Lebanon County caused extensive traffic backups Thursday morning and has shut down lanes in the area.

The crash happened around 9:45 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-81 in East Hanover Township near the Interstate 78 interchange at Exit 89.

Officials said the wreck blocked southbound lanes of the interstate, leading to significant delays. Northbound traffic was also slowed because of rubbernecking near the crash scene.

As of Thursday morning, the roadway remained closed while crews responded to the scene and worked to clear the crash.

Authorities have not released information on how many vehicles were involved or whether there were any injuries.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the closure remains in place.
