VIRGINIA — A 48-year-old woman died in a crash Sunday morning in Pittsylvania County, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on Dry Fork Road.
State police said Mary Bernard Shelton was driving west in a Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed when the vehicle hit railroad tracks and went airborne.
Investigators said the vehicle landed, the driver lost control, veered off the left side of the road and struck an embankment.
Shelton died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
