OHIO — A 28-year-old Coshocton man was killed and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Memorial Day in Stark County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 2:56 p.m. Monday at the intersection of state Route 21 and state Route 212 in Bethlehem Township.
Investigators said Alex McPeak was driving a Ford Escape westbound on Route 212 when he stopped at a stop sign and attempted to turn left onto Route 21. Troopers said McPeak failed to yield to a northbound Chevrolet Silverado pulling a travel trailer.
According to the patrol, the driver of the Silverado, a 19-year-old woman, swerved left of center before striking the driver’s side of the Escape. Both vehicles then traveled off the roadway, where the SUV struck a traffic sign.
McPeak was flown by Metro Life Flight to Summa Health System-Akron Campus, where he later died from his injuries.
A passenger in the Escape was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton. Another passenger riding in the Silverado was also transported to Mercy Hospital. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
Authorities said all occupants were wearing seat belts and impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
