SOUTH CAROLINA — Two people were arrested after Greenville County deputies stopped a vehicle traveling 125 mph on Interstate 385 over the weekend, according to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said a traffic unit deputy was traveling southbound on I-385 when a vehicle passed at what officials described as an “extremely dangerous speed” of 125 mph.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver on a speeding charge.
During the stop, deputies discovered the passenger had an outstanding warrant from Orangeburg County. Authorities also said the passenger was found with a firearm, drug paraphernalia and more than a gram of methamphetamine.
Both individuals were booked into the Greenville County Detention Center.
The sheriff’s office said excessive speeds like that “put everyone on the roadway at risk in a matter of seconds” and said deputies remain committed to enforcing traffic laws and keeping roads safe.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the two people arrested.
