Wanted North Carolina murder suspect arrested in Alabama

NORTH CAROLINA — A woman accused in a deadly shooting in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood has been arrested in Alabama and extradited back to North Carolina, police said.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, 26-year-old Adaysia Coles was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama, less than 24 hours after the May 21 shooting. She has since been extradited to Charlotte and charged with murder.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. on North Davidson Street near East 35th Street in the NoDa area.

Officers responding to the scene found a person suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where they later died.

Police identified the victim as 38-year-old Taylor Sylver.

Investigators said Coles was identified as a suspect and located across state lines later the same day. She was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office after being returned to Charlotte.

Authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting.
