Inmate dies at Georgia jail, investigation underway

GEORGIA — A 40-year-old inmate died Wednesday at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office jail after suffering a medical emergency, authorities said.

According to the sheriff’s office, jail staff observed Quentin Fennell, of Decatur, experiencing a medical emergency while in custody. Employees at the jail and personnel with Henry County Fire Rescue attempted life-saving measures, but Fennell was pronounced dead.

Officials said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit are investigating the incident. The Henry County Coroner’s Office has not yet released a cause of death.

Authorities said Fennell had been held at the jail since May 7. He was facing charges of simple assault and terroristic threats and acts.

No additional information has been released.
