MARYLAND — A Maryland man was arrested after deputies said they found methamphetamine and a loaded firearm inside his vehicle during a traffic stop in Charles County.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the traffic stop happened around 3:39 a.m. Monday on Chicamuxen Road near High Ground Farm Place in Indian Head.

Investigators said the driver slowed down but continued traveling for a short distance before stopping. During that time, deputies said the driver was seen placing items into the back seat of the vehicle.

After the vehicle stopped, deputies searched the car and recovered about $1,700 worth of methamphetamine, a digital scale and packaging materials consistent with drug distribution, authorities said.

Deputies also recovered a loaded 9mm privately made firearm and a large amount of ammunition, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Michael Alvaro Monjaras-Ramos of Waldorf, was arrested and taken to the Charles County Detention Center.

He is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and multiple firearm-related offenses.

Monjaras-Ramos is being held without bond.
