FLORIDA — A person was killed Wednesday morning after a Tri-Rail train collided with an SUV in Oakland Park, authorities said.

According to officials with Oakland Park Fire Rescue, the crash happened near Oakland Park Boulevard and Northwest 18th Avenue. Authorities said the train struck the SUV and pushed it approximately 200 to 300 yards down the tracks.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

First responders remained at the scene late Wednesday morning as investigators worked to determine what led to the crash. Video from the area showed emergency crews along the tracks while traffic was diverted around the scene.

Authorities said westbound lanes in the area later reopened, but eastbound lanes at Northwest 18th Avenue remained closed as the investigation continued.

No additional injuries were immediately reported. Officials have not said how many passengers were aboard the train at the time of the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing.
