Three people arrested following drug bust in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — Three people were arrested on multiple drug trafficking charges after Greenwood police seized more than 2,500 grams of narcotics during the execution of a search warrant, authorities said.

According to the Greenwood Police Department, members of Team Charlie began surveillance on a home along Greene Street after receiving complaints about suspected drug activity at the residence.

Investigators said the surveillance and investigation led officers to obtain a search warrant for the home.

During the search, officers recovered 39 individually packaged quantities of crack cocaine weighing about 1,033.69 grams, 23 individually packaged quantities of methamphetamine weighing about 1,047.32 grams, four individually packaged quantities of cocaine weighing about 41.38 grams and individually packaged marijuana weighing about 448.39 grams.

Police said the investigation resulted in the arrests of Daniel Hilario Ortega, Jorge Ramos Sanchez and Amelindo Eduriel Escalante Gomez.

All three men are charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, trafficking crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute drugs within proximity of a school or playground.

Authorities said the suspects are being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center.

In a statement, the Greenwood Police Department said the arrests reflect proactive police work in response to community complaints regarding illegal narcotics activity and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to investigating drug-related crimes.
