ILLINOIS — Traffic remains heavily backed up Tuesday morning after a semi crash shut down inbound lanes of Interstate 55 in Chicago’s southwest suburbs.

Authorities said all inbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway at Cass Avenue are currently closed following the crash involving a semi-truck.

Investigators said the truck lost its load, spilling steel coils across the expressway.

Drivers are being advised to exit at Lemont as delays continue backing up to Route 53 through Darien and Lemont during the morning commute.

Officials said the roadway remained closed as of 7:30 a.m. while crews worked to clear the scene.

No additional details about injuries or when the lanes could reopen were immediately released.
