One person dead after 100 MPH motorcycle chase ends in crash in Virginia

VIRGINIA — A motorcyclist was killed early Monday morning after leading Virginia State Police on a high-speed chase through Virginia Beach and crashing into a Virginia Beach Police Department vehicle.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers attempted to stop the motorcycle on Interstate 264 for reckless driving after the rider was reportedly traveling more than 100 mph. Police said the motorcyclist refused to stop, leading authorities on a pursuit.

Investigators said the rider exited I-264 at Lynnhaven Parkway and crashed into a VBPD vehicle that was crossing Fern Ridge Road.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene, police said.

The Virginia Beach police officer involved in the crash was taken to a hospital. The extent of the officer’s injuries was not immediately released.

Authorities have not yet identified the motorcyclist.

The crash remains under investigation.
