NORTH CAROLINA — A woman is facing multiple charges after Edgecombe County deputies say she led them on a high-speed chase through Rocky Mount on Monday morning.
According to the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was filling up his patrol car at a gas station when he saw two vehicles speeding down Fairview Road with tires screeching.
The deputy got into his patrol car and attempted to catch up to the vehicles. Authorities said one of the cars turned left onto Rosewood Avenue and continued accelerating.
Investigators said the driver also turned off the vehicle’s headlights in an attempt to avoid deputies.
The pursuit continued into Rocky Mount and Nash County, with speeds reportedly exceeding 70 mph within city limits.
Deputies said the vehicle eventually stopped at a home in the 800 block of Cedarbrook Drive.
Authorities identified the driver as Lashante Deans, who was taken into custody.
Officials said Deans was already wanted on an outstanding warrant for driving while license revoked. She was given a $26,000 bond.
Deans is also charged with flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, failure to heed blue light and siren, speeding, reckless driving with wanton disregard, driving while license revoked, a stop sign/flashing red light violation, and failure to use headlights and rear lamps.
According to court records, Deans later posted bond.
