SOUTH CAROLINA — A man is in custody after police said he assaulted a woman at a Moncks Corner gas station, forced her into the trunk of a vehicle and led officers on a high-speed chase early Sunday morning.
According to the Moncks Corner Police Department, officers responded around 3:45 a.m. Sunday to a reported domestic violence incident at the Circle K on Highway 52.
Police said the suspect assaulted a woman at the gas station before forcing her into the trunk of his vehicle and fleeing the area.
Officers later spotted the vehicle traveling more than 100 mph and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and continued fleeing, authorities said.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed a short time later. Police said the driver then ran from the scene on foot but was quickly located and taken into custody.
All parties involved in the crash were evaluated at a local hospital, according to police.
The suspect was booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name or possible charges.
