PENNSYLVANIA — Two people are facing charges after an assault on a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus and a later incident inside an ambulance in downtown Pittsburgh, according to court documents.

Police said the incident began near Smithfield Street and Fifth Avenue when Melissa Simonovich allegedly assaulted James Malloy as he was getting off a bus.

Witnesses told investigators that Simonovich struck Malloy multiple times with a walking stick and later with an umbrella.

After officers arrested Simonovich, medics responded to evaluate Malloy at the scene. Authorities said Malloy later became aggressive while being transported to a hospital in an ambulance and allegedly assaulted one of the medics.

Following treatment and clearance at the hospital, Malloy was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

According to court documents, Simonovich told police the two had been together earlier in the day and admitted they had been drinking together.

Both Simonovich and Malloy are facing several charges, including aggravated assault.
