ALABAMA — A Reform man was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Pickens County, according to state authorities.

The crash happened around 4:20 p.m. on May 11 along Alabama State Route 17 near mile marker 217, approximately six miles north of Reform.

Authorities said 33-year-old Christopher S. Byrd, of Reform, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado when it collided head-on with a 1994 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.

Byrd was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

The tractor-trailer was driven by 57-year-old Claude W. Robinson, also of Reform. Robinson was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle for treatment of injuries sustained in the wreck.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
