SOUTH CAROLINA — Authorities in South Carolina say deputies discovered methamphetamine hidden inside an energy drink can during a recent traffic stop in Pickens County.
According to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened May 11 along Saluda Dam Road. Deputies said a vehicle was stopped for traffic violations after a deputy attempted to pull it over.
Investigators said the people inside the vehicle moved around while the deputy activated blue lights and reportedly passed several safe locations before eventually stopping.
A second deputy and a K9 unit were called to the scene. Officials said the K9 alerted deputies to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.
During a search, deputies found what the sheriff’s office described as a trafficking amount of methamphetamine hidden inside a freshly opened energy drink can.
“This incident highlights the keen observations of our PCSO deputies to not only recognize the signs of criminal activity, but to locate illegal substances in the most unlikely places,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement posted on social media. “In addition, the value of police K9s in assisting our deputies with removing dangerous drugs from the street cannot be overstated.”
No additional information about arrests or charges was immediately released.
