
NORTH CAROLINA — A passenger was killed after a BMW crashed into a tree early Sunday morning in south Charlotte, according to police.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 2:15 a.m. along Queens Road West near Freedom Park, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
Investigators said a BMW M3 ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. A passenger, identified as 22-year-old Keegan McKeeney, died in the crash.
Firefighters extricated the remaining occupants from the vehicle before they were taken to local hospitals. Police have not said how many people were inside the car, and their conditions were not immediately available.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and whether speed or impairment may have been factors.
