One person dead following hit-and-run incident in Michigan

MICHIGAN — A 60-year-old Pontiac man was killed late Sunday night after being struck by two vehicles in a hit-and-run crash, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. near Featherstone and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Pontiac. Deputies responding to the scene found the man’s body in the middle of Cameron Avenue, just north of Featherstone.

Investigators said the victim was crossing Featherstone when he was first struck by the driver of an SUV. Authorities said the driver appeared to pull to the side of the road but did not report the crash.

A second SUV then struck the man and continued eastbound, according to investigators.

Neither driver stopped to render aid or contact authorities. Deputies said the victim was dead when emergency crews arrived.

“It is hard to fathom that a person would strike another human being with a car and drive off leaving them to die,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. “We would greatly appreciate the public’s help with any information that could identify the individual(s) involved. A reward is possible if it leads to the arrest and conviction of an individual.”

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate and is asking anyone with information about the crash or the vehicles involved to contact authorities.
