
NORTH CAROLINA — Several people were killed in a head-on crash early Saturday on Interstate 40 near the Newton Grove exit, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 2:40 a.m. when a Chevrolet Camaro collided head-on with a Honda Accord on I-40.
Authorities said the driver of the Honda was taken to ECU Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries.
All occupants inside the Camaro were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not said how many people were in the vehicle.
The roadway reopened around 7:30 a.m.
Investigators said deputies are working to notify next of kin.
The crash remains under investigation.
