ILLINOIS — A sophomore at Thompsonville Community High School died in a crash on May 7, according to school officials.
Superintendent Lindsay C. Robinson informed district families of the student’s death in a letter shared Thursday.
School leaders said the student attended Thompsonville Community High School, which is part of Thompsonville Community Unit School District 174.
“This is a tragic loss in our schools and in our community,” Robinson said in the letter.
District officials said grief counselors were made available at the school on May 8 to support students and staff affected by the loss.
The district also encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their children about their feelings and provide comfort during the grieving process.
“This loss affects everyone in our school family and in the Thompsonville community,” the letter stated.
School officials said information about memorial services will be shared once it becomes available from the family.
“Our thoughts are with the family and all those affected by this profound loss,” Robinson said.
