
SOUTH CAROLINA — A Spartanburg man died after a police chase that began in North Carolina and ended in South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle around 1:30 p.m. on Landrum Road in North Carolina. Officials said the driver failed to stop, leading deputies on a chase that crossed into Landrum in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.
According to investigators, the driver lost control while attempting to make a turn and crashed on Hunting Country Road.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol identified the driver as 31-year-old Willie Gist of Spartanburg. Troopers said Gist died in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
