Two people dead following vehicle crash in Pennsylvania

PENNSYLVANIA — Two people are dead following a multi-vehicle crash that sent a car off an interchange ramp near the Fort Duquesne Bridge, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials.

Emergency crews were called to the ramp connecting Route 65 and Route 28 on Pittsburgh’s North Shore after reports of a collision. Authorities said five vehicles were involved in the crash.

Investigators reported that one of the vehicles went over the side of the interchange and landed on Reedsdale Street below. The male driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said another person, a woman who was trapped inside a vehicle on the bridge, had to be freed using the jaws of life. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died.

Several other individuals involved in the crash were evaluated by EMS at the scene but declined transportation to a hospital. Authorities said the remaining people were able to walk away without injuries.

Public safety officials described the crash as “very serious.” All southbound lanes of Route 65 in the area were closed as crews responded and began their investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
