ILLINOIS — A man is dead following a head-on crash involving a semi-truck Wednesday in rural Stephenson County, according to authorities.
The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred just before noon on May 6 along Illinois Route 75, about half a mile east of East Winneshiek Road.
Based on witness statements, investigators believe a westbound black sedan crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound semi-truck.
The driver of the sedan died from his injuries. His identity has not been released.
The driver of the semi, a 57-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Illinois Route 75 was closed between Brick School Road and East Winneshiek Road as deputies investigated the crash. Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area while the roadway remained shut down.
Officials noted this was the second crash involving a semi-truck on Illinois Route 75 on Wednesday. Details about the other crash have not yet been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
