GEORGIA — A traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Camden County led to the arrest of a man wanted for murder in Washington, D.C., according to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the arrest occurred Monday, April 27, when deputies conducting a traffic patrol received a license plate reader alert about a vehicle with an expired registration. Deputies stopped the vehicle and began inspecting it and its occupants.
During the stop, officials identified a backseat passenger as Jason Vasquez-Pineda. According to the sheriff’s office, Vasquez-Pineda had an active warrant for murder out of Washington, D.C. Investigators also determined that he had entered the United States illegally.
“This is a strong example of how proactive policing and attention to detail can lead to significant arrests and help keep our communities safe,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Vasquez-Pineda was taken into custody and transported for booking. Authorities said he will be extradited to Washington, D.C., where he will face the murder charge.
