PENNSYLVANIA — A 13-year-old girl is accused of leading police on a multi-county chase in northeastern Pennsylvania that ended near a college campus, authorities said.
According to Wilkes-Barre City Police, the incident began just before 5 a.m. Friday when the girl, along with a 12-year-old boy from Plains Township, allegedly stole a Honda CR-V. The vehicle’s owner had left it running while delivering newspapers on Scott Street.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Coal Street, but the driver did not comply. Investigators say the SUV ran a red light and entered Route 309, sparking a pursuit through the Back Mountain region. The chase continued onto Route 29 and into Wyoming County.
Authorities say the pursuit moved through Tunkhannock and onto Route 6 before state police were able to disable the vehicle on Route 11 near Keystone College.
The 13-year-old driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The 12-year-old passenger was transported back to police headquarters in Wilkes-Barre.
Police say charges are pending as the investigation remains ongoing.
