MISSISSIPPI — Four men were arrested after deputies discovered marijuana and firearms during a safety checkpoint in Jasper County, authorities said.
According to Sheriff Randy Johnson, the arrests occurred around midnight Monday at a checkpoint on State Route 528 near Interstate 59 in Heidelberg.
The suspects were identified as Javion McCollum, 19; Damien Durrell McNair, 22; Damian Jerrell Reese, 25; and Johnny Marcus Nickelson, 53.
Johnson said deputies found approximately 98 grams of marijuana along with multiple firearms during the stop.
McCollum, McNair and Reese are each charged with one count of enhancement of penalty for a drug charge while in possession of a firearm, according to the online jail roster.
Nickelson is charged with one count of possession of marijuana (1–30 grams) while operating a motor vehicle.
All four suspects are expected to make their initial court appearances Tuesday.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
