OHIO — Two people were critically injured after a plane crash in Fairfield County late Sunday night, according to authorities.
The Lancaster Police Department said officers were called to the crash at approximately 10:41 p.m. on Rainbow Drive, between Noland Drive and State Route 188, northeast of the city. Emergency crews responded to the scene along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is leading the investigation.
Both victims, identified as adults, were transported to a hospital in Columbus in critical condition.
Officials said the aircraft involved was a Cessna Skylane C182 that had been flying from Martinsville, Virginia. Flight records indicate the plane was part of a round-trip flight that began and was scheduled to end at Fairfield County Airport.
Radar data shows the aircraft was last detected around 10:40 p.m., roughly one hour and 53 minutes after takeoff, and crashed about eight miles east of the airport.
Authorities have closed Rainbow Drive while crews continue to investigate and clear the scene. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
