ILLINOIS — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in a Dollar Tree parking lot in Joliet.
According to Joliet police, the shooting happened at approximately 1:51 a.m. in the 2900 block of Colorado Avenue. Officers responded to the scene and found a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim was transported to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities said a handgun and multiple shell casings were recovered from the parking lot. Two nearby vehicles were also struck by gunfire, though both were unoccupied at the time.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information or video footage to contact the Joliet Police Department.
