VIRGINIA — A 63-year-old Chesterfield County man has died following a single-vehicle crash caused by a blown tire along Interstate 95 in Caroline County, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:48 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, on southbound I-95 near Rogers Clark Boulevard. Troopers responded to reports of a crash and determined that the driver, identified as Kenneth Johnson Fitzgerald, was traveling south in a 2018 Ford F-550 pickup truck when the front passenger-side tire blew out.
Police said the blowout caused Fitzgerald to lose control of the vehicle. The truck ran off the roadway, and as Fitzgerald attempted to correct, it struck a tree.
Fitzgerald was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no additional injuries were reported. Authorities say the incident remains under investigation.
