TENNESSEE — A precautionary lockdown was implemented Friday morning at an elementary school in Putnam County after reports of a suspicious individual on campus grounds.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at Cane Creek Elementary School when a man was reportedly seen in a wooded area near the property. Witnesses who attempted to approach the individual said he walked away into the surrounding forest.
Deputies responded to the scene to investigate the report and secure the campus.
Officials said the school was placed on a “soft lockdown,” a safety measure that allows normal operations inside the building while restricting movement in and out of the campus.
Authorities emphasized that there was no immediate threat to students or staff. “There is no threat to the school or the kids,” a spokesperson said, noting the lockdown was implemented out of an abundance of caution.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details about the individual have been released.
