VIRGINIA — A tractor-trailer driver was injured in an early morning multi-vehicle crash that shut down Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County on Friday.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 1:25 a.m. on May 1 along I-85 north near mile marker 50, approximately two miles from the Route 650 exit.
A preliminary investigation found that a sedan struck a guardrail and came to a stop in the left lane. As other vehicles approached, a tractor-trailer swerved in an attempt to avoid the disabled car. The truck overturned and jackknifed during the maneuver.
Authorities said a charter bus carrying about 30 passengers also attempted to avoid the crash. The bus sideswiped the driver’s side of the tractor-trailer but sustained only minor damage. No passengers on the bus were reported injured.
The tractor-trailer driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the sedan was not hurt.
All lanes of I-85 were closed for an extended period as crews worked to clear the scene and troopers conducted their investigation.
State police said the investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending against the driver of the sedan.
