TEXAS — Five people were killed after a small plane crashed late Thursday night in the Wimberley area, authorities said.
Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said emergency crews were dispatched around 11:05 p.m. after receiving reports of an aircraft down near Wimberley.
Officials confirmed the plane, identified as a Cessna 421C, had five people on board. All five occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire and EMS personnel remained at the crash site into Friday morning.
Preliminary information indicates the aircraft was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact, and there is no indication of a mid-air collision.
A second aircraft traveling nearby landed safely in New Braunfels, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are expected to investigate the cause of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
