WISCONSIN — A 32-year-old man was killed after a milk truck crashed in Lafayette County early Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.
Emergency crews were called just before noon to the 5000 block of State Highway 81 in the Town of Argyle. Investigators later determined the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m.
Authorities said a 2012 Peterbilt quad-axle milk truck was traveling westbound on Highway 81 when it left the roadway on the north side. The truck went through a ditch before driving off the edge of an abandoned quarry.
Officials said the truck fell to the quarry floor and overturned, causing the tank — which was at least partially loaded with milk — to separate from the frame.
The driver, identified as Jaykub E. Anderson of Mineral Point, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office. He was the only person in the vehicle.
Highway 81 was reduced to one lane for several hours as crews investigated and removed the heavily damaged truck.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Argyle Fire and EMS, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Lafayette County Highway Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
