SOUTH CAROLINA — A man has been arrested after a fatal motorcycle crash in Saluda County that claimed the life of an Aiken County man, according to authorities.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said 25-year-old Ryan Boyd, of Batesburg-Leesville, has been charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of a collision that resulted in death.
The Saluda County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 61-year-old Mark Whorton, of Monetta.
Authorities said the crash happened around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday on Columbia Highway near Roseland Drive. Troopers say a 2000 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling west when it struck a deer, causing Whorton to fall into the roadway. He was then hit by an unknown vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Boyd left the scene following the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Saluda County Coroner’s Office.
