
SOUTH CAROLINA — A man was found dead inside a car Tuesday afternoon after witnesses reported hearing gunshots and a crash in Anderson County, according to authorities.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said the victim was discovered at the intersection of Nelson Drive and Highway 76.
Deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said two 911 calls were received around 1:30 p.m. The first caller reported hearing gunshots, while a second caller reported a crash after a maroon Kia left the roadway and struck a wooded area nearby.
Authorities said the man was found inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound. Investigators also reported finding bullet holes on the exterior of the car.
Two individuals were initially detained but are now considered witnesses, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials said charges could be pending.
Deputies are continuing to search for a suspect.
As a precaution during the investigation, Nevitt Forest Elementary School was placed on a secure hold, officials said.
The incident remains under investigation.
