Thousands without power in Illinois following severe storms

ILLINOIS — Thousands of Illinois residents are without electricity Monday evening after storms moved through the state, leaving scattered outages across multiple regions.

According to PowerOutage.us, at least 16,467 homes and businesses are currently without power statewide, representing about 0.28% of the more than 5.8 million customers tracked.

Central Illinois appears to be among the hardest-hit areas. Sangamon County reported the highest number of outages, with more than 2,600 customers affected. Other counties with notable outages include DuPage, Logan and Macon counties, each reporting more than 1,000 outages.

Cook and Kane counties also reported outages, though at lower percentages compared to some central parts of the state.

Ameren reported the largest number of outages among utilities, with more than 8,700 customers without power. Commonwealth Edison Company also reported more than 6,000 outages.

Officials say the outages are likely tied to storms that brought strong winds and heavy rain, which can down trees and power lines.

Utility crews are working to restore service, though no estimated restoration times have been announced.

Residents are urged to avoid downed power lines and report outages to their utility providers. Officials also recommend preparing for possible extended outages by having emergency supplies such as flashlights, batteries and nonperishable food.
